Q&A
Q. Why was a decision taken in November to downsize and restructure X-Ray when the outcome of the site strategy isn't known?
A. Within a large, complex organisation such as this nothing stands still. Requirements and services change constantly and decisions have to be made based on the information that is available at a given point in time. When the Trust was faced with a CIP to achieve we had to review services and requirements and make decisions at that time.
Q. Support Services is not shown on any of the plans. Will it be demolished? Will we be sharing with COCH?
A. We are looking at the potential for shared corporate services with COCH but, as with the site strategy, nothing is pre-decided.
Q. Dermatology is a very efficient well performing department so why are there plans to split it up?
A. All options presented within the site strategy proposal have been informed by a number of factors, including patient experience and discussions with clinical staff. As such the options presented are what the Board consider the most feasible and appropriate to deliver excellent healthcare into the fuure. However, as well as using this engagement process to express their overall view of the options presented, I would encourage anyone who has a view on a specific element of any of the options, to present a reasoned argument with supporting information and it will be considered as part of this process.
Q. Currently, and in the proposals, there are no qualified staff on site to deal with diabetic walk-in patients at CGH and this has an impact on the patient experience.
A. As per the answer to the query above, the engagement process provides opportunities for staff to raise issues and present a case to support their views and they should do this by completing a response form which is available on-line at www.whnt.nhs.uk/staff/campaigns/ss/ or in the printed version of the engagement document.
