Pre Engagement

Treating you well into the future

"Treating you well into the future" is a commitment to our patients and the general public to ensure that we continue to provide them with the best, safest care in the years to come.

We have carried out a major review of how and where our services are provided at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals and this showed that we need to make some significant changes to the location of some services. This will enable us to deliver the highest quality of care in the best place whilst securing a vibrant future for both hospitals. For the past six months we have been discussing the shape and location of existing services and exploring options for change with our doctors, nurses and other clinical staff. Their views have been invaluable in helping us to draw up a draft outline business case for proposals relating to outpatient services, day case surgery and planned operations. Far from reducing the services we provide, these proposals are about helping us not only to improve the patients’ experience of our hospitals but also to make the most effective and efficient use of both sites.

The outline Business Case contains detailed information about the background to the review, together with financial analyses. The Estate Related Document contains the proposed floor plan layouts for both sites associated with each option. If you would like to look at a hard copy of these documents, a reference copy is held on the reception desk at Cedar House, Clatterbridge Hospital or in the Membership Office, ground floor, Arrowe Park Hospital.

The Engagement Document summarises the business case and explains the case for change, the options, the proposed movement of services and some of the key strengths and weaknesses of each option. There are a number of engagement questions in the document and we would very much like as many staff as possible to read the document and let us have their views on the proposals by answering them. This can be done online or by printing pages 25 and 26 of the document and sending the completed form in the internal post to the Communications and Marketing Team, 2nd Floor, D Block, Arrowe Park Hospital, or if posted externally, to the freepost address in the document. All comments should be submitted by June 13 2011.

A four page summary version of the Engagement document is also available to view.

The Trust has set up a Stakeholder Engagement Board to advise on, and be involved with, the engagement programme and we are working to an agreed Communications and Engagement Plan.

Over the coming weeks we will be engaging with staff at a divisional and corporate level to explain why we believe changes to our existing services are necessary and outlining the options for change. A series of staff roadshows will be just one opportunity for staff to make their views known. In addition, divisions and departments have been asked to identify opportunities for our engagement champions to come along and talk to groups of staff between now and June 13, the date that the engagement programme will close.

Our initial engagement is with staff, but from May 9 we will be engaging more widely with our stakeholders and the local community under the banner of "Treating you well into the future", so that everyone with an interest in local hospital services can have their say on our proposals for change. We want to hear from everyone - our staff and patients right through to our partners and statutory and voluntary organisations. All the views and comments received during the engagement period will be assessed before a final decision on the way forward is made by the Trust’s Board of Directors at the end of June. This will be followed by feedback on the outcome of the engagement process and details about the next steps.
