About Us
The Critical Care unit at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral University Teaching Hospital
is an eighteen-bedded Unit. It supports the needs of all the critically ill on the Wirral over the age of sixteen and also provides specialist renal support to the whole of the North West.
The patients that we cater for are of varying pathology, which include post operative surgical patients who have had major surgery or underlying complications who require extra support and care, to various respiratory, cardiac, neurological trauma and any other condition that needs the support of individual twenty four hour trained nursing care in conjunction with a high level of medical input.
We provide an Outreach Service that encompasses the whole of the hospital. This service allows us to offer advice, support staff and provide education in the general ward areas when they are caring for the acutely ill patient.
We provide a follow up service that is committed to supporting patients who have spent time in the unit and need to discuss any psychological and physical problems incurred during their stay with us.
The nursing care provided is of high standard and intervention. Most of the nurses working within the unit are qualified to degree level with a specialist interest and or qualification in critical care. The nursing team is extremely dedicated and committed.
