General Medicine
General Medicine provides inpatient and outpatient services for over 55,000 adult patients each year, delivering care across a wide range of sub-specialities such as gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology, respiratory, endocrinology, haematology, genito-urinary medicine and palliative care.
A full range of Out-patient, In-patient and Day Case Services are provided by the Division.

Recently opened the newly refurbished Endoscopy Unit which has been expanded to accommodate four scoping rooms
A Heart Assessment Centre (HAC) which uses a multidisciplinary approach to the rapid treatment and management of patients with chest pain.
A 12 bedded Lung Assessment Unit (LAU), based on Ward 38, open for patients with chronic respiratory conditions. The Unit will provide patients with intensive treatment over short periods of time thus reducing the need for frequent, lengthy hospital stays.

Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) who work with the gastroenterology, diabetes, cardiology and respiratory physicians rather than following a ward-based routine.
The ANPs work closely with the medical staff and may be involved in aspects of patient care under the guidance of the consultant physician. The ANPs can function both independently and within the multidisciplinary team following agreed protocols of care.
A Genito-Urinary Medicine (GUM) department that provides free and confidential advice and treatment for anyone worried about sexually-transmitted infections, symptoms that need checking out, contraception, cervical screening and HIV and AIDS. No appointment is required for the drop in clinics, which are run by specialist GUM nurses.
The GUM Department also provides a number of specialist clinics run by doctors, to which GUM nurses or GPs can refer patients if required.
